Our story began with me hanging drywall and doing metal framing as a 17-year-old. I worked my way up through the construction industry, working with HVAC, house framing, and sheetrock. Then, in 2005, I discovered roofing.
I’ve never looked back.
Early on, it was all about the challenge—roofing is physically and mentally challenging, and requires focus, dedication, and attention to detail. I’ve seen a lot of turnover in this industry over the years, and with every colleague that said this wasn’t the industry for them, I just wanted it more!
When I met Tip Top Roofing founder Steve Rorem, I knew I’d found my mentor. He taught me how to value people above all else—our local homeowners, our employees, and our community—and he took care of his guys. Life had other plans, and shortly after my wife and I welcomed our youngest child she was diagnosed with infantile scoliosis. After three years of castings, weeks at a time without work, and pushing our family to the limits, our beautiful Kylie Grace recovered in full. The Tip Top Roofing team, and Steve, were a massive part of our support system throughout that time, and my family will be forever thankful for the part they’ve played in our journey. Then one day, Steve Rorem came to my house to tell me I was being laid off. I’ll never forget his words:
“No matter what happens, or how hard things get, don’t ever work for someone else again. Keep doing what you’re doing.”
